Make a Difference in the Life of a Child
The Martin Rajkovich Children’s Fund was established with the Community Foundation for San Benito County in 2007, as a bequeathed fund, permanently endowed to benefit critically or chronically ill children living in San Benito County.
When setting up the fund, Foundation CEO Gary Byrne learned about the softer side of Martin Rajkovich, “As a farmer, he always had a special place in his heart for his worker’s children, quietly and anonymously helping whenever he could—making their wishes come true.” Rajkovich's lasting wish is that this special fund continues to bring joy and comfort to sick children and their families.
In the past four years, the Martin Rajkovich Children’s Fund has granted more than $17,000 back to the community by providing extra support that is not available to the family due to limited access of resources. Teenager Amy Miller received a new mobility van to help get around town shopping with her family. Her mother, Karen, said, “I am able to secure Amy in her wheelchair, guide her up the ramp, safely latch the wheelchair into place, and go. It is an awesome blessing!”
Four-year old Jack Preader received a gait trainer and a very special tricycle with all the bells and whistles that he needed to give him the proper trunk support, and he is now able to participate in activities boys his age enjoy—his mother Melissa is able to share in that joy as well.
From bathroom modifications to computer software, the Martin Rajkovich Children’s Fund is available to families who wish to enhance the quality of life of their special needs child. The fund will consider equipment and accessories, special therapeutic treatments outside of the medical field, transportation, respite care, family counseling, and special recreational travel arrangements.
To refer a child for grant consideration from this special fund, please download the Child Referral Form on our website. Children must be under 19 years of age, live in San Benito County, and under a doctor’s care for a critical or chronic illness.
