Hard Work, Progress Rewarded With a Trip

"We truly believe the therapists have made such a large impact on the boys' progress." — Allison Garcia

The Community Foundation has been working with the Garcia family since 2014, awarding them a matching grant in the amount of $5,000 from the Martin Rajkovich Children’s Fund. With the help of family, friends, and strangers, Gilbert and Allison Garcia were able to raise the matching funds necessary to provide their boys with much needed therapy.

Sons, Emilio and Marcos, were born with Hypotonia, a low muscle tone condition that inhibits milestones such as crawling, walking, speaking, and eating. The grant enabled the boys to receive 12 months of water therapy, 12 month of physical therapy, and a family trip to Southern California.

Today, Emilio is six years old, and he has beaten the odds, walking unassisted. He is a very active boy, even able to walk across a suspension bridge without help. His brother Marcos is now three and is progressing as well. The Garcia family just recently made a trip to Disney Land to celebrate the accomplishments of their boys.

Gilbert and Allison are thankful for all the therapists who have worked with Emilio and Marcos, “We truly believe the therapists have made such a large impact on the boys' progress.” Both boys are now enrolled in the special education department of our local school district.

The Martin Rajkovich Children’s Fund, a permanently endowed fund, is always open for contributions. Gifts of any amount may be given to this fund. The fund directly supports critically or chronically ill children across San Benito County.
