Jean Gillaspie Memorial Scholarship
Jean lived in both Hollister and San Juan Bautista, working for the Free Lance, office manager at Cal Turf/Pacific Sod, and employee at San Benito Agriculture Commissioner. She was a member and past President of Young Ladies Institute, volunteered her time to Hazel Hawkins Hospital, and served on the Hollister Grand Jury Committee. In her 80s and 90s, Jean operated a wedding floral and craft business. A 3-time breast cancer survivor, Jean would crochet blankets and donate many to cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.
The Jean Gillaspie Memorial Scholarship is available to graduating seniors on the Autism Spectrum pursuing higher education. Students may be enrolled in a 2 or 4-year college, university, or vocational program. Students must reside in San Benito County.
Eligibility Requirements
- A San Benito County resident
- Planning to enroll in a 2 or 4-year college, university, or vocational program
A Completed Application Includes:
- Scholarship application
- 2 letters of recommendation (one from a special education teacher or academic advisor, one from a community member)
- Personal Statement (1 1/2 - 2 pages double spaced) including a statement regarding aspirations for your future
- Transcript (official or unofficial)
