Community Foundation for San Benito County
The Community Foundation for San Benito County is a tax-exempt public charity dedicated to ensuring long-term resources for the community. Local donors have established endowed funds that grow over time, allowing for sustained support. These funds are managed by a volunteer board of prominent community members who are attuned to the needs of the area. The income generated from these funds is utilized for grantmaking and to support the development and strengthening of community organizations
Summary
The Director of Development and Donor Services is responsible for creating, executing and monitoring the Development and Donor Services strategies for the Community Foundation that effectively build and enhance the growth of the Foundation.
Key Relationships
Key relationships include: CEO, Foundation Staff, Board Members, Foundation Committees, Professional Advisors, Donors and Prospects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Director of Development and Donor Services will work across every area of the organization. The position will provide leadership in several functional areas including:
- Donor Development and Donor Services 65%
Creates an Annual Donor Development plan that details specific activities to be conducted by month as well as anticipated outcomes.
- Provides staff support for all meetings or events that are related to donor development including:
- Asset Development meetings
- Meetings with and for Professional Advisors
- Women’s Fund Meetings
- Targeted presentations or meetings that further donor development goals
- Provides a wide range of donor-directed services and support to include generating a targeted donor prospect base, opening new funds, using the data-base to manage and support donor needs, proficiency in executing donor fund agreements
- Prepares and executes an action plan for special or targeted campaigns/events (ex. Giving Tuesday)
- Provides leadership with the National Philanthropy Day event (with both staff and committee support)
- Working with Asset Development Committee, identifies and creates relationships with a broad inventory of current and prospective donors that includes:
- all identified Legacy Givers
- annual year-end donors
- prospective donors to be actively cultivated
- a list of those donors who are already active givers that might be approached for Legacy Gifts
- corporate and foundation targets
- Creates a strong database of Professional Advisors and sustains relationships with them
- Works with the CFFSBC Board Chair to consider other committee appointments to strengthen Asset Development
- Works with the Asset Development Committee on creating a Foundation Sustaining Benefactor Program
- Provides written monthly reports on Development and Donor Services for the CFFSBC Board
- Leverages all outreach activities to support donor development goals
- Community Outreach 20%
- Creates an Annual CFFSBC Community Outreach Plan that details specific activities to be conducted by month as well as anticipated or desired outcomes. This plan should target outreach to current as well as prospective donors.
- Works with the Community Relations Manager to incorporate donor development strategies to be included in the Annual Marketing Plan
- Provides leadership for National Philanthropy Day to generate donor awareness
- Non-Profit Organizational Support 15%
- Leverage National Philanthropy Day to showcase local nonprofits, nonprofit leaders and those who support NPO’s.
- Conduct an analysis or survey of what the SBC-based nonprofits are most interested in learning through targeted training opportunities or through the ED Roundtable
- Work with the Community Relations Manager to highlight significant donor-focused stories that feature NPO’s that could be show-cased in CFFSBC marketing pieces.
- MISC
- Staff Support for the Foundation Committee’s as assigned.
- Other assignments as directed by the CEO
Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- At least 5 years of experience in fund development, donor relations, community outreach, or fundraising
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders
- Proficiency on Microsoft Office Suite, Database management and CRM software
- Ability to utilize facility-related technology
- Passion for the community with knowledge of local needs and opportunities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Diplomas
- Valid California Driver’s License preferred
- Computer Skills
- Must be computer literate with MS Office skills including Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Proficiency in donor database use and management highly desirable.

- Must have demonstrated ability to spot inconsistencies and suggest appropriate course of action.
- Salary Range: $69,000-$79,000
