DESCRIPTION

The San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo (SBCSHSR) has developed a program to give select recipients scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are SBCSHSR contestants or official volunteers of the SBCSHSR weekend of the show. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a committee and may be used at any university, college, or trade or specialty school.

REQUIREMENTS

READ THROUGH THE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

It is recommended you use these instructions as a checklist before submitting your application.
  1. Graduating High School Senior residing in San Benito County.
  2. Current or past SBCSHSR contestant or volunteer: -
  • Contestant; please list your contestant year(s). -
  • Volunteer; please list your organization, volunteer year(s), and contact person for your organization. Volunteer hours must be during the weekend of the Saddle Horse Show.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Application must be complete in its entirety to be considered. Attach additional pages if necessary.

TRANSCRIPT OF GRADES

Provide a current school transcript. A copy of an official transcript of quarter/semester completion will be required for collection of scholarship funds. A copy of transcript must be provided.

HORSE SHOW PARTICIPATION

Please provide contestant year and/or Volunteer Year and date(s) with Director's name for reference for volunteer.

DEADLINE

Application must be complete in its entirety by April 1st at midnight to be considered. NO EXCEPTIONS.

INTERVIEW

The Saddle Horse scholarship committee will notify applicants for final interviews.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

A typed 1-page statement, double spaced.

Please answer, "Why this scholarship would make a difference to you and state how rodeo and/or agriculture has impacted your life."

ESSAY

Please answer each of the following questions in 100 words or less.

  1. Describe a moment of sportsmanship that has stuck with you.
  2. What do you expect to gain by earning a college or trade school degree?
  3. Explain a family, social, or school situation in which your leadership made a difference.
  4. Describe a time or event in your life that shaped who you are as a person.
  5. How do you define success?
