Description

The San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo (SBCSHSR) has developed a program to give select recipients' scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are SBCSHSR contestants or official volunteers of the SBCSHSR weekend of the show, and an active member of the High School Rodeo Association. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a committee and may be used at any university, college, or vocational school.

Requirements

READ THROUGH THE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. It is recommended you use these instructions as a checklist before submitting your application.

  1. Graduating High School Senior residing in San Benito County.
  2. Current or past SBCSHSR contestant or volunteer. Volunteer hours must be during the weekend of the show.

1. APPLICATION FORM
Application must be complete in its entirety to be considered. Attach additional pages if necessary.

2. LETTERS OF REFERENCE
Provide 2 letters of reference only.

  • One letter from a teacher or academic advisor
  • One letter from a community member.

School letters must be on official school letterhead. All letters must be signed and dated.

3. TRANSCRIPTS OF GRADES
Must include your most recent school transcript.

4. HORSE SHOW PARTICIPATION
Please provide contestant's year and date(s) with Director or organization reference for the volunteer.

5. PERSONAL STATEMENT

  • A typed statement 1 1/2 - 2 pages doubled spaced.
  • Include why this scholarship would make a difference to you and state how rodeo and/or agriculture has impacted your life.

6. ESSAY
Please answer each of the following questions in 100 words or less.

  1. Describe a moment of sportsmanship that has stuck with you.
  2. What do you expect to gain by earning a college or trade school degree?
  3. Explain a family, social or school situation, in which your leadership made a difference.
  4. Describe a time or event in your life that shaped who you are as a person.
  5. How do you define success?
